I had never heard of this drink before until I noticed some Mexican gentlemen drinking it in a little authentic Mexican restaurant in Enid, OK. I asked the waitress what it was and she gave me a sample and I've been hooked ever since. The drink looks much thicker in this photo than what I have had an it is MUCH better if it is served with ice in the cup. The colder the better.

Mmmm, my favorite taco place serves horchata- which is my new favorite drink. It's like drinking liquid donuts- sweet, with cinnamon, and something more. Thanks for the recipe.

ps- how silly that they badly photoshopped on "cinnamon" in the photo!

Mike: neat, Downtown crossing is always a breath of well.. air :-) I love how vibrant that area is.

When I was cruising some of the recipes, some include milk.

None included spirits tho :-) Doesnt meant you cant experiment!

Interestingly, I had an horchata today for lunch. Herrera's in Boston at Downtown Crossing has a good rendition of it. The only downside is there's no spirit. :) I'm surprised that it doesn't have milk.
