Cybele- The people at Bube's basically invited me to go where ever I wanted and snap photos. The food was decent in both the Catacombs and in the Bottling Works (where you ate). The menu in the Bottling Works was your typical pub fare. The Catacombs had an elaborate spread. What I remember most is their raspberry sorbet which they I think they make themselves.

They didn't seem to mind photos when I was there a few years ago. We were stiting in the back room where the stage was, and took over the whole balcony. They even had a guided tour to the catacombs.

I don't recall enjoying the food that much but the rest of our group was quite pleased with the beer.

I shoot my photos without a flash, so as not to bother the patrons and no one has ever given me a hard time. The typical reaction to my photo and note taking is just what the waitress did at Bube's. When you see the article on Appalachian Brewing Company, you'll see I got the grand tour there too.

I read "so the waitress asked me if I was 'a beer critic'" and worried. So many critics, bloggers or not, are being chastised for snapping photos. But she grabbed the keys and showed you around. That's fabulous.

The Catacombs is an unusual dining space, and being forty feet underground it's "a cool place to dine in" year round.

Your visit brings back fond memories. Friends of ours own a bed-and-breakfast in the area and made us reservations at Bube's when we visited -- a cool place to dine in. Loved it!
