World Cup Fever!
If you are not aware that we are in the middle of the World Cup, you must be living under a rock! Even here in the US, where soccer is far from the most popular sport, you’ll find people suddenly claiming national heritages you never realized they had - especially if “their” team happens to be winning. And, of course, there are a good share routing for the US team, too.
I just returned from Boston and every pub, restaurant and even the technical event I was attending, had screens broadcasting every match. Yesterday I spent a little time in Boston’s North End, the home of the Italian community there, and people were filling little bars (and pastry houses, for that matter) to capacity, spilling out onto the sidewalk, lined up along and looking back in through open windows watching whatever match was on at the time.
So for today’s Drinks Around the World, we’re not going to talk about any specific country but instead raise a glass of beer - as that is what is being consumed by the World Cup fans around the world, even as you read this…
