There’s a New Muddler in Town
I decided I’d better tell you about this new tool after reading about it in both the Sept/Oct issue of Imbibe and a special issue of Wine and Spirits that I picked up at a recent wine tasting event. I was glancing through both magazines last night and within 30 minutes had seen this new tool mentioned in both places and not just mentioned but actually raved about. Further research shows that Gary Regan mentioned it in his newsletter way back in July 2004 - okay so we might be just a little late to the party…
In our defense Chris Gallagher, the creator of the PUG, does not have a website and the only way you can acquire one of these muddlers is by emailing him. You can see a photo and review here on Spirits Review.
The PUGs are taller, thicker and have a larger bottom surface than traditional muddlers. They are handcrafted from beautiful woods like cherry, maple and jatobá. They cost $30 - $35, which seems like a great price for the handcrafted beauties!
In the meantime, if you are looking for something a little easier to pick up you can always stick with a traditional muddler, or something a little more sleek and stylish like the Rosle muddler. I like the Rosle as you don’t have to worry about getting splinters in your cocktails!
