Apple Sage Martini

Today’s harvest recipe comes to us from Sazerac via the Seattle Times Cocktailing column.
This cocktail was created at Sazerac where the focus is on a well-balanced drink and there is a definite avoidance of the syrupy sweet. This particular drink showcases sage, an herb that is all about fall and winter in my mind. That’s probably because of the connection to Thanksgiving since sage is actually available all year round, at least in my garden.
At this time of year I pick lots of it and dry it though, as for some things dried sage is more appropriate than fresh. This cocktail uses fresh but the way it is used you could substitute dried in a pinch, if you needed to.
Apple Sage Martini
- 2 sage leaves
- 2 wedges lime
- 2 oz vodka
- 1 oz apple schnapps
- 3/4 oz fresh sweet and sour
Rim cocktail glass with sugar.
Muddle sage and lime in a pint glass, add vodka, apple schnapps and sweet and sour. Fill glass with ice, shake. Strain into cocktail glass.
