Cosmopolitan and the City

Row of Cosmos

By the time you read this post, or shortly thereafter, I should be arriving at JFK airport, after a hopefully restful red-eye flight, and making my way into the city. This is my mostly annual trip to the city to celebrate my birthday. This year, as in some previous years, my best friend M will be joining me. In fact she is actually already there. What makes this b-day celebration doubly fun is that she and I share the same birthday! So we both get to celebrate.

The main focus of this trip is actually a planned set of seminars and classes called Gourmet Institute. So instead of my normal “roam around the city until I drop” plans, I actually end up with very little free time. But what I have, I plan to make the best of and will hopefully have some things to share with you when I return.

In honor of this trip to Manhattan today’s Happy Hour at Home cocktail is the Cosmopolitan. I mean, in honor of Carrie and the girls, you know… Now Robert has already provided the classical and well-balanced version of this drink. My version is very close but I have tinkered with it just a bit to satisfy my yearning for a bit of tartness in all things liquid.

Cosmopolitan
  • 1 1/2 ounces citron vodka
  • 1/2 ounce Cointreau or triple sec
  • 1/2 ounce cranberry juice
  • 3/4 ounce lime juice

Shake with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a wedge of lime or a fresh cranberry.

And what appetizer to pair with this cocktail? Well in true Carrie-style, we’ll just nibble on the garnish, of course!

A flamed orange peel also makes a great garnish for this.

Oops! I see Robert already has the orange peel in his version of the recipe. Nevermind then!

Good catch, Andy! :-) Any garnish that echos something in the drink is always a good choice.
