(Formally) Announcing Mixology Monday 10 - Drinks for A Festive Occasion

mm-10.bmpAs you may be aware, community events are pretty common in the online/blogging world.  Several months ago Paul of Cocktail Chronicles started an event around cocktails that he calls Mixology Monday.  Each month a new theme is announced, bloggers from around the world create a drink based on the theme and then post about them on a specified Monday.

We have been bad community members - not purposely but still it has happened - and we are about to rectify that.  Not only will we participate in December but we will be hosting!

As you are aware we are smack dab in the middle of the holidays.  This is a time of friends, parties, family - all manner and sizes of get-togethers of one sort or another.  So our theme for this month is Drinks for a Festive Occasion and the date for the event is Monday, December 11th.

What drinks do you like to serve (or be served!) during your holiday gatherings?  Is there some drink that is always served at your family gatherings?  Do you choose your cocktails based on color at this time of year?  Or maybe this is your chance to show off a cocktail that you think should be part of the holiday celebration.

If you need motivation think of one particular holiday in the upcoming parade - Thanksgiving is the kickoff but it is closely followed by Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Christmas and the New Year - what beverage captures the spirit of anyone of those holidays or the season in general.

Bonus “points” will be given for any drink that is suitable for a crowd.  Sometimes being able to make up a big batch of something is the one thing that saves your sanity.  Folks can help themselves or you can easily pour a glass or cupful as guests arrive at your doorstep leaving you relaxed and with time to socialize.

So, create your cocktail, write up your post, publish it on Monday December 9th and then send me email (SeattleCulinaryFool AT hotmail.com) with the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your blog name and url
  • The post name and url
  • The drink name

Please have the information to me by midnight (pacific time) on December 11th as I’d like to get the summary done by Wednesday the 13th.

If you find this event gets your holiday senses tingling, you may also want to participate in December’s Wine Blogging Wednesday which I’m hosting on my site, Culinary Fool.  We’ll be tasting sparklers in honor of the holidays.  Check out the announcement for the “rules”.

Whoo! I’m in! Sounds like fun.

Do the drinks need to be original? Or is an old holiday favorite acceptable?

@ Dietsh - It will be fun!

@ Thomas: An old holiday favorite is perfectly acceptable!

[…] On December 11 is the celebratory edition of an event near and dear to my heart, Mixology Monday. Hosting this round is Brenda at The Spirit World, and for the December event, Brenda has chosen Drinks for a Festive Occasion as the theme. From your favorite eggnog recipe to an original creation that you think should become a holiday tradition, drinks for this event should be fit for the season — and, as Brenda notes, participants get extra points for submitting drinks suitable for a crowd. Check out The Spirit World for full details on MxMoX. […]

Hi Brenda… Thanks for hosting. We’ve got our festive drink up: http://marriedwithdinner.com/archives/432

Thanks, Anita! Please make sure you drop me an email with all requested info.

[…] The theme for this week’s Mixology Monday (hosted at Spirit World) is Drinks for a Festive Occasion. I was a little stumped about what to contribute. I had been thinking about something using my homemade Pimento Dram, the Jamaican allspice liqueur. Allspice evokes the holiday season more than most tastes do. I am not entirely happy with how my Pimento Dram turned out. The only over-proof rum I could find was the rather nasty Bacardi 151 which may be the reason my Pimento Dram is a little harsh, and the allspice taste is more ‘hot’ than fragrant. However, it is better than nothing. […]

Thanks, Barbie! Can you please drop me an email with the requested info?
