The Champagne of … Vodkas?
If you were anywhere near a TV or Radio in the 70s you’ll know that Miller proclaimed itself the “Champagne of Bottled Beer”. Apparently there is now a sparkling vodka on the market, that some are calling the Champagne of Vodkas! Currently available in the UK, France, Greece and Iceland Vodka O2 hopes to be in the Canadian and US markets sometime after the first of the year. According to the PR guy who contacted me:
A long-waited vodka dream ironically came from England. As some magazines would call it “the champagne of vodkas” the O2 vodka is the world’s first sparkling vodka. Produced by the International English Distillers and created by Philip Maitland the 80-proof premium vodka’s production process is patented already. It took 18 months to develop the process that puts oxygen bubbles into the smooth tasting vodka to leave a lightly effervescent texture that gently tingles on the tongue. This unique British vodka is produced predominantly from wheat and a small amount of malted barley. Distilled and filtered three times in 100-year-old copper pot stills, for exceptional purity and smoothness.
Additionally the site says that those same bubbles actually stimulate your appetite and to that end they have created a series of “Tapastinis” martinis with bites of food in the glass. I’m not sure about that whole concept. The idea of a sparkling vodka is interesting though. Unfortunately all the press on their site is just a regurgitation of their press release and even other blogs seem to be in the same place we are - wondering if this is indeed something we need.
Anyone in the UK, France, Greece or Iceland let us know if you’ve tried O2 and what you think of it.

Tried it, definitely is as advertised. My full review is here:

Might be perfect for a pre-dinner taste. An Amuse Booze?
