Absolut Lomo

You might remember earlier this year when we reported that Absolut had a little project going with Lenny Kravitz. Well, the folks at Absolut are at it again and this time they are supporting visual arts; photography to be specific.

The Absolut Lomo Project was actually launched some time ago but I just stumbled upon it a few days ago. Before looking into the project it may help if you know a bit about lomography, which is technically an easy, snapshot style of shooting photos but has developed into an art form of its own. There are 10 Golden Rules which you can read here.

Absolut’s challenge is for photographers around the world to use Lomo cameras or at least a lomo style of photography to:

“shoot one or a series of images capturing your image of Absolut.”

Of course there are some rules for the competition, and some categories but nothing too strenuous. Every four weeks a winner is picked and they will be the lucky recipient of a trip to the Lomo World Congress of London in 2007 and there are additional prizes that will be awarded.

The competition ends on 28-February-2007 so you have plenty of time to snap a few shots and submit them to the gallery!

Lomo-rules: the whole Lomo thing is so darn interesting from the soviet beginnings to the populist/communist revolution.. I think the rules are very zen-like, especially toward the end. Thanks for sharing it here too!

I know, I find it really fascinating. And am only now realizing (through my Flickr group) just what a community/society/artistic outlet it is. Very fun!
