Animal Bowl

sbxlihc.gif I’m sure you’ve probably noticed that this weekend is Super Bowl. Super Bowl XLI to be exact. This battle will pair the Indianapolis Colts against the Chicago Bears. Now you may already know who you are pulling for but if you are having a hard time making your decision then check out this site that will help you make the decision.

Once you have that figured out, then you can get around to planning your Super Bowl beverages and snacks. For that planning let’s go straight to the horse’s (or bear’s mouth). Free registration required to access some of these links.

The IndyStar seemed to have a whole article devoted to Super Bowl parties but the more I looked through it, the more I found only drink suggestions and information! Nothing really about food! Now since this is The Spirit World we can’t be too upset about that. Still it would have been nice to have more info about typical tidbits to serve with the drinks. In the meantime, I offer up this recipe, created by Smirnoff especially for Colts fans.

The Blue Horseshoe

  • 1 ounce Smirnoff vodka
  • 1/2 ounce blue curaƧao (or triple sec)
  • 3/4 ounce lemon juice

Fill cocktail shaker with ice. Add ingredients to shaker and shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass rimmed with sugar. Garnish with a lemon wheel.

On the other hand, the Chicago Tribune has several recipes for your party time fare including a themed cupcake! Their beverage focus seemed to be on wine - which was a bit odd if you ask me, but the times they are a changin’. Still shouldn’t beer have been on the menu?

For those who are watching just to watch - or will pick a team because they must - the LA Times offers up a full menu with the likes of “Salad of yellowfin tuna confit with cannellini beans” and “Duck Rillettes” among other things! They also focus on wines as the beverage of choice but that makes a bit more sense when you are in California!

Whatever you choose for your menu, just remember to watch the commercials…
