Caribbean Night
Previously, I wrote about mixing cassis with stout to produce what’s called a Liverpool Kiss. There are a couple of other beer cocktails that use stout as a base. The Bee Sting is a mix of stout with orange juice. A Broadway (also sometimes called a Diesel) is a mix of stout and cola. What I’m going to tell you about today though is called a Caribbean Night.
I made my Caribbean Night with a pint of Beamish Stout and an ounce of Chouffe Coffee Liqueur. I chose the Chouffe because it’s one of my favorite coffee liqueurs and it’s made by the same outfit that produces all those wonderful Chouffe beers in Belgium.
In principle you could use any dark beer and any coffee flavored liqueur, but to live up to it’s name I imagine that you should mix Jamaica Stout with Tia Maria.
Now the Tia Maria I’ve got, but somebody is going to have to hook me up with some Jamaica Stout so I can give this mix a try.
Something that would be a little easier to find is Guinness Foreign Extra Stout mixed with Tia Maria. The Guinness Foreign Extra Stout comes in those shorter twelve ounce bottles with the tan labels. This beer is higher in alcohol content that “regular” Guinness (if there is such a thing). It’s my understanding that a version of this Foreign Extra Stout is even brewed in Jamaica, but I don’t know if any of that variety crosses the Caribbean to these shores.
Coffee liqueur in a stout is a natural combination and you’ll enjoy it, especially if you are a fan of coffee and beer. I would suggest pouring the beer on top of the liqueur to get the best mixture. Let me know if you try any other combinations and which you prefer by posting a comment below.
