A Mainstream Broadway
If you’ve been following along, you’ll already know that I wasn’t that impressed with my first Black Bart. So I thought that I would move right along and try something that I felt would have a little more promise of producing a beverage that I would actually enjoy drinking.
Following the same principle I used to select ingredients for the Black Bart, I grabbed a can of the most popular (in the land of the tasteless) American Standard Lager and mixed it with the most popular brand of cola to produce what in Japan is called a Broadway (or a Diesel in Germany). This time the experiment was a success.
I mixed the cola half and half with the lager. The result was a drink that looked like iced tea, but had the aroma of cola. The combination was a success since the cola completely dominated the lager and the lager worked to make the cola less sickeningly sweet. If you like the flavor of cola, but don’t have a sweet tooth, this might just be your drink.
I’m going to keep working on the Broadway. I’m interested to see what happens when I combine a more strongly flavored beer with the cola. I’ll keep you updated.
