Domaine Chateau De Fontpinot 1986 Launched By Frapin
Domaines Frapin has announced the launch of Domaine Château de Fontpinot – 1986, a 20 year old cognac “with superb ageing and exceptional maturity.” It has already been awarded a gold medal in the 2007 International Wines & Spirits Challenge.
It was exclusively harvested, distilled, aged for 20 years in oak barrels, blended and bottled at Château Fontpinot. Fontpinot lies in the heart of the Frapin family’s 300 plus hectares of Grande Champagne vines, which it has cultivated for eight centuries. Today, the estate is tended by cellar master Olivier Paultes, and wine maker Patrice Piveteau, Just five, 350 litre, casks of the Château Fontpinot 1986 have been produced, all carefully monitored by the BNIC.
On tasting, the cognac shows surprising depth with floral notes of white iris and jasmine, along with vanilla and almonds. The palate is smooth and well rounded with traces of quince, pineapple and tarte tatin.
At 41 per cent Alc, Domaine Château de Fontpinot 1986 is packed in outers of six in a 35cl Charentais-style bottle and presented in a round gift box, available in a limited, numbered edition. It is expected to retail for around £45 in the UK.

I have had the plesure of drinking a bottle of Chateau de Fontpinot brought back from France sometime between 1984 and 86. It was a gift from my sister. Through the years I have tasted many a different and expensive brands of cognac, but non gave near the heavenly pleasure of that perticular bottle. I savored that bottle for a few years and was quite sad when in due course it was finished. I still have the empty bottle. I have been looking for this brand for all these years since and hope to purchase at least one, if not more, bottle. I live in Huntsville, Alababama, USA where there is little culture. Oh! How I miss Europe.
