In the blockbuster movie “National Treasure: Book of Secrets,” actor Nicolas Cage expertly maneuvers a Mercedes through the narrow streets of London as beer kegs drop off the livery truck exploding Fuller’s London Pride in front of him.  But that’s not just any truck and those certainly aren’t just any kegs.  To capture the flavor of London culture, Fuller’s was selected by the National Treasure production team to play a prominent role in National Treasure’s exciting car chase scene.

The car chase scene took a reported nine weeks to film due to the film crew’s access to London streets being limited to weekends.  Some believe the lengthy time may have been in part due to the amount of Fuller’s kegs available for this scene.  In all, over 40 cars were destroyed in creating this segment of National Treasure.

“Fuller’s Brewery was honored to be chosen as the authentic British Ale in creating the London feel,” explained Michael Campbell-Lamerton, Fuller’s Export Manager.  “And it’s exciting that the movie is so well-received.  We’re cheering for it, although it does pain me to see all that many Fuller’s kegs being splashed.  I guess you could say we take Pride in having National Treasure pave the streets of London with our Fuller’s Ales.”

All Fuller’s brands – London Pride, ESB, London Porter, 1845 and Vintage Ale — are brewed by England’s award-winning brewer, Fuller, Smith & Turner PLC.   Fuller’s won two gold medals at the bi-annual Brewers Association World Beer Cup, the pinnacle of international recognition.   Fuller’s was also chosen as the best regional brewer at the Oscars of the flourishing British pub industry, the Publican Newspaper Awards.  This coveted honor signifies Fuller’s top spot amongst fellow British brewers, as voted by pub industry trade publication, The Publican.

That is very cool… I have to see the film now just for this scene. I wonder how many tears I will shed seeing all that beer being spilt?
