MySpeedRail.com - A Community for Bartenders

Bartender Pouring a Drink

Social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace are filled with numerous groups, fan clubs and event listings for bartenders and mixologists but now there is a website that is strictly for the professional bartending community. The site is MySpeedRail.com and it launched in the beta version this past May and two weeks ago we saw the full launch take place.

So far I’ve enjoyed my time on MySpeedRail because it is geared toward one topic and everything under the sun that bartenders want to talk about. In a short time the community has grown nicely and it’s becoming more popular now that we’re out of the beta stage – it is always nice when websites obtain that non-testing phase – with bartenders, professional mixologists and those of us who write exclusively about the spirited world.

MySpeedRail is an international community and I find myself learning something new almost daily about the trends, customs and happenings of bars all over the world. The site is filled with features that are focused specifically to our craft and goes far beyond those gimmicky widgets of the other social websites. The blog feature is always active with random thoughts, experiences, challenges and people working out new ideas out loud. There’s a Question/Answer widget where bartenders can ask each other any question and get honest and multiple answers. Of course, there’s a Recipe and Garnish database to share all those creative concoctions and get some feedback and if you’re looking for a job or need to hire someone there’s a job posting board. The honest feedback from the community is the best aspect and it’s refreshing to here from people who are experienced and knowledgeable, all with a different personal perspective.

Overall, the concept of MySpeedRail is impressive and the outcome so far is great. If you are a professional bartender and are looking for a place to converse with people in your same position with different experiences and are looking to grow in your career, then I highly recommend joining the community.
