Chairman’s Reserve Golden Rum from St Lucia
Most rum aficionados have heard of Chairman’s Reserve rum from St Lucia. This fabulous golden rum is now sold in most of the UK’s top cocktail bars, either for sipping with ice or as a key ingredient in many sensational cocktails (see recipes below).
Chairman’s Reserve is the first rum to carry the WIRSPA (West Indies Rum and Spirits Producers Association) true rum marque, a guarantee of quality and is a Golden Rum - the fastest growing category in the UK Spirits market. According to the latest market statistics from AC Nielsen, rum now accounts for 10% of the entire UK spirits category equalling gin and Golden Rums are growing faster than any other sector with sales up 36% in 2008.
Chairman’s Reserve will be available in all Waitrose stores in the UK from the 27 April (initially £13.49) and will be a key part of the WIRSPA awareness campaign throughout 2009 with posters on the London Underground, advertisements in lifestyle magazines, tastings around the country and at the new ‘Rum Experience’ at Vinopolis.
Chairman’s Reserve is the leading Golden Rum distilled on St Lucia, one of the Windward Islands, in the Southeast Caribbean south of the French island of Martinique. The distillery was founded by the Barnard family in 1932 to make rum from their extensive sugar estates on the island and in 1972 they merged their business with Geest Industries to form St Lucia Distillers.
The company is now owned by Clico Barbados Holdings, but the business is still family run with Laurie Barnard grandson of the original owners remaining in control as Managing Director of St Lucia Distillers. The company now has three pot stills as well as a continuous still to enable them to produce and blend especially high quality flavourful rums.
