Back to Sweden

After a couple of side trips we are back to our tasting of Swedish snaps thanks again to my friend, Henrik.
For this week’s taste-off I decided to pair two aquavits/akvavits that were made with the same herbs. Now the difference in spelling is a little confusing to me as I had thought […]

Animal Bowl

I’m sure you’ve probably noticed that this weekend is Super Bowl. Super Bowl XLI to be exact. This battle will pair the Indianapolis Colts against the Chicago Bears. Now you may already know who you are pulling for but if you are having a hard time making your decision then check […]

The Sicilian Witch

This was not the post I intended to write today. After Sal’s entertaining post on the Bota bag (stay tuned for Part II!) I was set to get back to my Swedish smörgåsbord of spirits. But then I got caught in a spell - and it must have been cast by a very […]

America’s Top Ten Bartenders

While Playboy is not normally on my list of “must-reads” I had to make an exception for this. They have just released their list of America’s top bartenders - based on the art of mixology not flair - and I am happy to report several familiar names are on the list. I am […]

We’re Going Bananas….

We’re a little busy this morning (dang that “real” work!) so today’s Happy Hour at Home post will be up a bit later today….

The Art of the Bar

We recently received a copy of The Art of the Bar: Cocktails Inspired by the Classics to review. Over the last few days I’ve taken a look at this eye-catching book.
The book is authored by Jeff Hollinger and Rob Schwartz, current and former bartenders, respectively at Absinthe Brasserie & Bar in San […]

Mashed Potato Bar and Vodka Martinis

In past columns I’ve mentioned to you my support of a local food organization called Northwest Harvest. I recently became aware of another big supporter of this organization, actually it’s a group of friends who started with a small idea and over the last couple years, through a groundswell effort, have grown it to […]

Drinks Around…. Sweden!

Thanks to my friend, Henrik, I now have a whole bunch of liquid material that I’ll be covering over the next few weeks! During the holidays, I was at a party he was co-hosting with his fiancé, Denice, and at some point a set of Swedish snaps made their way into the center of […]

MxMo: Winter Warmers - Spanish Coffee

Tomorrow is Mixology Monday 11: Winter Warmers. It’s sponsored by the folks at Imbibe Magazine at their blog Imbibe Unfiltered.
Although I’ve talked about this drink before, it was nearly a year ago so I think it’s okay to repeat it. My entry takes me all the way back to my […]

Brenda Pederson

Brenda Pederson has been enamored with cocktails since she was 6 or 7. Well, at least she was enamored with the teeny, tiny swords her parents would bring home after a night out! Once she figured out where to get those little swords she started a journey to collect as many of them and other accoutrement as possible. She currently owns close to 200 shot glasses. She is not sure that is something to be proud of…
